How to Use the HRA Calculator
Enter your basic salary, HRA received, actual rent paid, and whether you live in a metro city. The calculator instantly shows your eligible HRA exemption under Section 10(13A) of the Income Tax Act. The exemption is the least of three calculated amounts.
Example HRA Exemption
For a salaried employee in Delhi earning Rs 60,000 basic per month, receiving Rs 27,000 HRA, and paying Rs 15,000 rent: the exempt HRA would be Rs 10,800 per month (the least of 50% of basic = Rs 30,000, actual HRA = Rs 27,000, or rent minus 10% of basic = Rs 9,000). Taxpayers can save significantly by claiming HRA correctly.
